About
AccessKit originates from years of technical consulting with artists and museums. During exhibition installs, we often found ourselves building utilities to reduce friction around media player and caption management. We discovered that these shared tools fostered collaboration between curatorial, accessibility, and AV teams, standardizing the installation process while allowing for quick changes under tight deadlines. Developing a web platform also enabled new guest experiences like multilingual captions and synchronized audio playback on guest devices.
After launching AccessKit, we’ve continued to incorporate feedback from museums, making the platform more intuitive while supporting increasingly complex multi-channel works. We’ve also explored new accessibility technologies like Bluetooth hearing aids, enriched captions, and more.
The AccessKit team includes Patrick Steadman, Sam Wolk, Aoife Leonard, Willis Plummer, Alec Mapes-Frances, and many other project-based collaborators!
Besides building AccessKit, we continue to work with individuals, companies, and institutions in the cultural creative sector. We’re always interested to hear about new projects.
